Very attractive " bureau plat " in good condition with very small chips and scratches to the wood, four pieces of veneer missing: one to the left drawer and three others ones to the square part above the legs, max 6 cm. Attractive model with unusual design of the legs. Loose to one piece of giltbronze above the left back foot. Original leather top with cracks and scratches in places. The two leathers slid tops red one each side. From a prestigious private collection located avenue Foch in the early yers of the 20th century. Very fine quality of marquetry and giltbronze. One key. Philippe-Claude Montigny, ébéniste reçu maître en 1766

Ce modèle de bureau indistinctivement estampillé Dubois ou Montigny, également décliné dans une version plus petite (d'environ un mètre de large), est identique au bureau livré en 1765 par Poirier au comte de Coventry (voir A. Pradère, "Les achats parisiens de mobilier du comte de Coventry", L'Estampille, l'objet d'art, Juin 1996, pp.46-53) dont la largeur était de 146 cm. Il semble que l'on doive dater la conception de ce modèle antérieurement à 1763, date à laquelle  on trouve un "un bureau de 4 pieds et demi de bois verni, fait a la grecque" dans l'inventaire après décès de Jacques Dubois. Concernant Philippe Montigny, il est vraisemblable d'imaginer des rapports de sous-traitance tant avec Dubois qu'avec le marchand-mercier Poirier.
