Condition
Good condition overall. As can be seen on the photograph, the marble shows some veining and a few minor marble inclusions to his thigh. A few minor chips to the edges at several places.
Three toes to his left foot restored. A very minor chip to the back of his left heel. Minor surface dust in the crevisses. Very decorative marble.
Très bon état général. Le marbre présente quelques veines apparentes et des petites inclusions dans le marbre au niveau de la hanche et de la cuisse. Trois doigts de pieds restaurés. Petit éclat à l'arrière de la cheville gauche. Très belle marbre décorative.

Catalogue Note
Le marbre original créé par Thorvaldsen à Rome en 1818 (1m73) est conservé à Copenhague au Thorvaldsens Museum (Fig. 1). Six versions en marbre ont été exécutées du vivant de l'artiste, mais aussi après sa mort notamment dans l'atelier des Lazzarini à Carrare qui continua à produire des œuvres du sculpteur. Ce marbre faisait probablement partie de la série de sculptures que Giuseppe Lazzerini (1831-1895) avait vendue à Paris après l'Exposition Universelle de 1865, notamment par l'entremise du marchand d'art italien Egisippo Norchi.
