Catalogue Note
Le médecin corse Francesco Antommarchi releva après la mort de l'empereur, le 7 mai 1821 à Sainte Hélène, une empreinte du visage de Napoléon. Des plâtres furent édités à partir de ce masque mortuaire ainsi que cinq épreuves en bronze acquises par souscription nationale du Dr Antommarchi en 1833. Un exemplaire sans le coussin est conservé au musée du Louvre (inv. LP 235).
