Catalogue Note

A pair of candelabra of this model, also stamped Chibout, albeit in ormolu and patinated bronze, was sold Sotheby's New York, 16 May 2004, lot 124 and illustrated J. Bourne, Lighting in the Domestic Interior, p. 155.

The model derives from a design by Charles Percier illustrated H. Ottomeyer/Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p. 328, fig. 5.2.1

Members of the Chibout family of bronziers are recorded active in Paris during the first half of the 19th century.
