The design for these armchairs recalls a very Louis XVI outline in the manner of J.B. Sené in the last decade of the 18th century. The rather thicker lines and sabre back legs, however, recall a set of chairs made circa 1815-1830 for the duc d'Orléans (later to become King Louis-Philippe) at the Palais Royal, illustrated, Madeleine Jarry, Le Siège Français, Switzerland, 1973, p. 310, n. 306. The royal set bears similar guilloche carvings along the frame with very similar front legs and sabre back legs, features brought back to style during the Restauration period.
