Condition

Recently restored. The bronzes thoroughly cleaned, with some rubbing to the ormolu. . The ebonized surfaces refreshed. This desk appears to have been altered in the 19th century, with the front drawer support being moved to accommodate a new secrétaire drawer with fall front. The surface show evidence an underlying veneered surface. New leather top. The presence of pegs on the top would indicate that the top had not originally been veneered, which would imply either that it had been taken from another bureau, or that it had originally been intended for a cylinder bureau.
