- Jardinière allemande en argent par P. Bruckmann & Söhne, Heilbronn, vers 1880
Les armes sont celles des Wurtemberg accolées à celles de Schwaben pour le royaume de Wurtemberg (1817-1922), un des lignages les plus anciens d'Allemagne, depuis Konrad I, comte de Wurtemberg (1098-1122). Ducs depuis 1495, Frederick I, alors duc en titre, fut nommé électeur du Saint Empire Germanique en 1803. Trois ans plus tard, il devint Roi de Wurtemberg. Dans les années 1880, au moment où fut réalisée cette jardinière, le roi était alors Charles I (1864-1891). Il se distingua durant son règne par ses réformes libérales. Le dernier roi de Wurtemberg, Wilhelm II, fut renversé en 1918.
Ce modèle a été créé en métal argenté par Christofle vers 1857 pour l'empereur Napoléon III (voir Sotheby's Paris, 28 mars 2007, n° 148).

marked on base plate, a few scratches and minor dents and replacement nuts, liner appears original but not a perfect fit, generally pretty good condition
