  • fully marked on underside of borders

plain circular with deep wells, the borders engraved on one side with arms in a shield beneath a marquess's coronet and the Royal Badge on the opposite

Provenance

The engraved arms on one side of the border are those of Stuart for John Stuart, 4th Earl and 1st Marquess of Bute, 1744-1814, envoy to Turin 1779-83, ambassador to Spain 1783 and 1795-96.  The opposite side of the border is engraved with the Royal Badge

Catalogue Note

In 1800 he married as his second wife, Frances, 2nd daughter and co-heir of Thomas Coutts, the banker.  The opposite side is engraved with the Royal Badge.
