Description

  • dishes, covers and finials marked and numbered.  Together with a fitted silver-plated octagonal four-handled lazy susan

  • length 11 3/4 in., length of lazy susan 28 1/4in.
  • 29.8cm, 71.3cm
rectangular with ovolo borders and slip-lock reeded loop finials, the flat-domed covers engraved with arms, crest and presentation inscription, centers of dishes crested

Provenance

The arms are those of Hamilton for Sir Charles Hamilton (1767-1849) a British naval officer and member of Parliament (1790-1812).

Catalogue Note

The presentation inscription reades: "To his Excellency Lieutt. Governor Hamilton from the Merchants of Heligoland for the Services He has rendered them 1809"

Hamilton served as Lieutenant Governor of Helioland from 1814-1817, and Resident Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador from 1818-1823.  He was created 2nd Baronet of Trebinshun upon his father's death in 1784.
