Catalogue Note

Throughout his long and accomplished career, Iskowitz created an idiosyncratic vocabulary of colour and form.  Layers of mottled forms at full chromatic density vibrate against one another to create a portrait of the landscape that is unique among Canadian abstract painters.

Yellow Painting E, painted in 1980,  demonstrates the apex of Iskowitz's trajectory away from landscapes and towards pure abstraction.  The hues are electric and the composition is assured as he perfects the inventive patterns of pure colour.
