Catalogue Note

Knowles, a Saskatchewan artist, has produced a body of work extraordinary in its scope and scale.  She is a preeminent figure in modern Canadian landscape painting.

This fine work from 1985 differs from her earlier well-known panoramas of the prairie sky and horizon, yet is a more intimate work showing the contained pools and streams.  Bits of Snow has the look of a watercolour with its intense light and thin application of paint. The  result is a landscape of airy, hazy, and delicate forms and colours.
