A Chinese famille-verte large jar and cover Kangxi Period, (1662-1722)

Description

  • height 24 in.
  • 61 cm
of octagonal baluster form, painted with panels of ladies on a terrace or figures in landscape alternating with narrow panels of berried vine, all raised on a later wood stand. Minor crack, small frits and a restored chip to cover.

Condition

Cover - has a 1 inch by 1/2 inch poorly restored chip to one corner of the cover. There is a minor 1 1/2 inch firing derived hair crack to another corner. The rim edge is heavily fritted and there is a shallow 3/8 inch frit/chip to the shoulder of the cover. Jar - the rim is heavily fritted as is the footrim. There is a 4 inch hair crack running from the edge of the base up into one side. There are odd patches of flaking to the enamels and some fine crazing and discoloration to the green enamels. Otherwise in good condition.
