Description

  • Vladimir Kagan
  • Dining Suite
  • walnut, formica and fabric upholstery
  • comprising dining table with two extension leaves and original storage crate, eight chairs, and a tea trolley (not illustrated) produced by Kagan Dreyfuss Inc., New York

Literature

Vladimir Kagan, The Complete Kagan:  A Lifetime of Avant-Garde Design, New York, 2004, pp. 106, 108-109 (for the chairs) and pp. 112-113 (for the table)

Condition

Overall very good condition. The table with some shallow surface scratches. The leaves are in good condition and very closely match the table in color. They are still being stored in the original crate sent by Kagan. The dining chairs are a beautiful sculpted form. Upholstery is in excellent condition. Scratches and dings to the feet as expected with use. Both the armchairs with prior cracks at the joint of the arms which have been professionally restored. Because of the floating arm design, the arms are slightly fragile in these chairs. This lot includes the original tea trolley designed for this interior. Shown on Sothebys.com, the top of this piece can be further reduced in size by closing the top in half and shifting the base underneath the reduced top. The tray shown stored on the shelf below the top is removable. The trolley moves with ease and only very slight surface scratches and is in excellent condition.
