Condition

Overall in very good condition. When examined under black light, there are no visible traces of any prior restoration. The vase presents beautifully in person, with great scale and exceptional definition to the carved decoration. The carved surfaces are very tactile and impart the vase with a tremendous sense of scenic depth. The glaze application is also skillfully executed with great precision. A very impressive example.

Catalogue Note

This exceptional vase is distinguished by its impressive scale and exquisitely carved decoration.  The decorative register, suggestive of a bayou or river bank scene with successive rows of trees separated by a body of water, effectively imparts a tremendous amount of pictorial depth.  The varying tonalities of subtle blue glazes on the horizontal bands further heightens the appearance of spatial depth.
