Description

  • Dirk van Erp
  • "Warty" Vase
  • stamped DIRK VAN ERP inside a closed box below a windmill

  • hand-wrought copper

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The hand-wrought copper surfaces retain their original patina, and show some occasional light surface scratches, gentle rubbing, a few small traces of surface soiling, and a few small spots of very light surface oxidation consistent with age and gentle use. The interior with heavier surface wear, soiling and oxidation. A superb example displaying exceptional scale and a vigorous hand-wrought "warty" surface treatment, most notably in the impressive "wrinkled" surface at the foot of the base. The patina displays far greater subtleties and depth than seen in the catalogue illustration, with deep tonalities of brown heightened in rich shades of russet red and golden amber.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Catalogue Note

This superb "warty" vase is notably distinguished by its impressive scale and subtle organic form.  The vigorous hand-wrought surfaces bear a deep brown patina heightened in rich shades of red and golden amber.  Synonymous with Van Erp's most accomplished "warty" pieces, the textured surfaces along the bottom register of the vase are masterfully "wrinkled" like a piece of fabric.
