Description

  • 61cm. high
19.5-cm engraved silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and matted brass dial centre, pierced gilt spandrels to the corners and subsidiary for strike/silent in the arch, associated three train fusee and chain movement converted to anchor escapement with quarter chiming on eight bells and hour striking on a single bell, the backplate engraved with foliate scrolls around a fruit basket within a formal border, moulded mahogany veneered case with brass bound inverted bell top surmounted by five ball finials, break arch glazed door with foliate pierced frets and flanked by brass caryatid and trailing flower mounts on canted corners, carrying handles above pierced sunburst frets to the sides, moulded brass bound plinth raised on brass scroll feet

Condition

dial looks fine, silvering and gilding intact, but the centre of the dial is replaced and four holes indicate that there were dial feet at other places as the current three indicating an association of the dial to the movement, dial fits the case fairly well and might well be original to the case, movement able to function but needs some adjustment to the striking and chiming trains, converted from verge to anchor with several unidentified holes plugged in the back- and frontplate, case in original condition, a little dirty, a few holes from the fixing of the earlier movement , some small scratches and cracks from normal use and wear, together with a doorkey, winder and a pendulum
