Catalogue Note
Born in the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venice in 1817, Paul Sormani was one of the leading cabinet makers in Paris from the mid-19th century. Highly in demand, he expanded his business in 1858 and specialised in style furniture inspired by the previous century's maîtres ébénistes. In 1867 he established workshops at 10, rue Charlot. After Sormani's death in 1877, the business continued under his widow and son, Paul-Charles, later moving to 134, boulevard Haussman.
