Description

  • A mountainous forest landscape with Diana and Acteon, a ruined castle and a water mill beyond
  • oil on copper

Condition

The actual painting is less yellow and deeper in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The large copper plate is somewhat irregular, but otherwise, no damages are apparent. There are some oxidation spots on the reverse. The paint surface is under a dirty layer of varnish and there's some surface dirt. Retouchings are visible throughout, of which the larger ones are visible along the right edge, in the sky, in the grass in the centre, and in the group of trees centre left. Inspection under UV light reveals additional small scattered retouchings. Offered in a plain wood frame in good condition. (MW)
