Description
- Hendrik Jacobsz. Dubbels
- A winter landscape with figures and horses near a barn, skaters on a frozen lake, a church beyond
- oil on canvas
Provenance
With P. de Boer, Amsterdam, as Hendrik Jacobsz. Dubbels (according to a label on the reverse).
Exhibited
Paris, Grand-Palais, 1966, no. 3 (according to a label on the reverse).
Condition
The actual painting is slightly more blue in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an effective relining. There's a minor crease lower left. No damages are apparent. The paint surface is secure, if a little abraded in the darker areas, and under a slightly dirty layer of varnish. Minor strengthening is visible in the horse and figures in the centre. Inspection under UV light reveals a few additional tiny retouchings in the white horse, in the boat, in the sky, as well as minor strengthening in the figures in the background.
Offered in a plain wood frame with silver gilt fillets with some losses. (MW)
