Description
- Philips Wouwerman
- A military encampment, with soldiers and women dancing and making music before a sutler's tent
- oil on panel
Condition
Follower of Philips Wouwerman:
The actual painting is less yellow and deeper in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is bevelled on all sides. A horizontal crack in the lower part has been reinforced with a strip of linen to the reverse, and retouched to the front. Otherwise, no damages are apparent and the paint surface seems to be in good condition. Retouchings are visible in the sky. Inspection under UV light, furthermore, reveals minor strengthening in the tent on the left and in some of the figures. Overall, the painting is in good condition.
Offered in a plain wood frame in good condition.
Follower of Willem Kohl:
The actual painting is warmer and less yellow in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of two horizontal planks and is bevelled on all but the upper sides. No major damages are apparent, but there are some discoloured retouchings in the sky, and strengthening throughout, which is confirmed under UV light.
Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame in good condition.
Follower of Isaac van Ostade:
The actual painting is yellow in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The canvas has a very stiff relining. No damages are apparent, but there's thinnes throughout. Retouchings are visible in the sky, as well as strengthening in the figures.
Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame in good condition.
The miniature by Christoph Ludwig Agricola is in excellent condition and offered in a plain wood frame with a glass plate, with some damages. (ML/MW)
