Description

  • A pair of river landscapes with numerous sailing boats and figures on the river banks in the foreground
  • a pair, both oil on panel

Condition

Both paintings are warmer in tone than the catalogue illustrations suggest. Both single panels are slightly bowed, uncradled and bevelled on all sides. In the painting on the left in the catalogue a few very tiny paint losses are visible in the ship on the right, but otherwise, no damages are apparent. In both paintings, a few small retouchings can be observed in the sky. Inspection under UV light reveals a few additional scattered retouchings, and minor strengthening in the figures and ships. Both paint surfaces are under a very dirty varnish layer. Offered in decorative carved and gilt wood frames in good condition. (MW)
