  • 159cm. high, 72cm. wide, 54cm. deep; 5ft. 2 ½in., 2ft. 4 ¼in., 1ft. 9 ¼in.
the frieze drawer with red worn velvet backed fretwork

Condition

Fair overall condition. Handles later. Red material backing to frieze drawer front is worn velvet. Parcel gilt mouldings later gold painted. General old marks and scratches. A very unusual cabinet which is reminiscent of a clock hood in the shape of its upper part.

Catalogue Note

The form of upper section to the present lot is consistent with the design of the hood of an English long case clock of the early 18th century. It is therefore possible that this cabinet was produced by a clockmaker and that the platform surmounting the cornice was intended to support a bracket clock.
