Catalogue Note

This series was modelled in 1764-65 and is taken from engravings by J.B. Probst after drawings by J.J Schuebler, published in Augsburg in 1729. Wenzel Neu arrived at Kloster Veilsdorf from Fulda in 1762 and was responsible for many of the best productions at the factory before returning to Fulda in 1767.

Otto and Magdalena Blohm owned three copies of this rare figure. The other two had the more often found masked faces. Another example with the open, bearded face, in the Angermuseum of Erfurt, also bears the painters mark R in purple; see Fest der Komödianten, pl. 75
