Provenance

José Maria Sert  (1874-1945), 252 rue de Rivoli, Paris.

Sert was a painter of international repute who was renowned for his Baroque murals and his work can be found in the League of Nations, Geneva and the RCA building in Rockefeller Centre and the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York.  He was part of the Catalan avant-garde together with the Barcelonian artists Utrillo and Casas. He was also was a decorator and in the 1920's was involved creating designs for the Ballet Russes. 

A pair of girandoles with this Provenance was sold from the Collection of M. Hubert Givenchy, lot 32, Christie's, Monaco, 4th December 1993.

Condition

Good condition though two of the sconces are chipped and the top nozzle of one candelabra has been replaced with a similar but non matching nozzle.
