A set of six German gros and petit point upholstered beechwood armchairs mid 18th century

By repute the Grafen zu Munster, Schloss Derneburg, Germany

Good condition. Later stained to simulate walnut (it is possible they were originally ebonised). Some restorations, most of the chairs have at least one re-tipped foot. Some worm damage and fragmentation.

Schloss Derneberg for the longest period in its history was a monastery housing various orders between 1143 and 1814.  After the Congress of Vienna it passed to the Hanovers and was given by King George III to Graf Erst zu Munster, who represented him at the Congress of Vienna. In 1975 the castle was bought by the German artist Georg Baselitz who lived there until 2005.
