An Italian Renaissance carved walnut trestle table, Tuscan 16th century with alterations

Of pegged construction. A lot of wear throughout and traces of old worm. Top with attractive patination but with worm and worm fragmenting consistent with age. Fragmenting and wear to frieze and the end supports. One trestle with split scroll and later timber insert. A lot of wear to feet. Indications of replaced timber components throughout. The reverse of the stretcher with later applied metal bracing. A dramatic and impressive table.
