- 69cm. 27¼in. high
6-inch enamel dial signed Robin à Paris, with centre seconds, the hour hand finely pierced with the letter 'R' encircled, the beaded bezel partially concealing the winding holes, the rectangular plated movement signed Robin Fils à Paris, with externally mounted deadbeat escapement with adjustable A-frame pallets, beat adjustment on the crutch, bell striking with outside count wheel, the knife edge suspended gridiron pendulum with double-sided sun mask bob, the fully glazed case with elaborate Baccus and vine mask below the dial, crisply chased mouldings throughout, inset with a putti frieze on the base and surmounted by a seated bronze figure of Cupid, Amour Menaçant, after Falconet, the whole raised on a verde antico base

Condition
Dial in good condition. Movement clean and appears to run. Splendid original gilding and good patination to the bronze figure. With pendulum but no winder.

Catalogue Note
Robert Robin, a clockmaker of great reknown, became clockmaker to Louis XVI in 1782. His sons Nicholas-Robert and Jean-Joseph continued the business after the death of their father in 1799. The patinated bronze figure of Cupid was modelled after the marble original, L'Amour Menaçant, sculpted by Etienne Maurice Falconet for Madame de Pompadour and exhibited in 1757.
