A fine patinated bronze, ormolu and griotte marble mantel clock, Ledure, Paris, circa 1815

3½-inch enamel dial signed Ledure, Bronzier à Paris and Hémon Hr. bell striking movement with outside count wheel and silk suspension, the simulated stonework case surmounted by two laurel wreaths and flanked by a finely chased and patinated figure of Homer playing a lyre, a seated dog at his feet, the marble base inset with an ormolu plaque depicting an Homeric scene, on paw feet

Dial has chips around right winding hole and between III and V and minor hair cracks at IIII, VI, VIII and XII. Movement is much in need of a clean and overhaul. Case in generally good condition with good colour patination to the bronze, original ormolu gilding has some discolouration and is rather rubbed around the base, marble has old cracks and repairs and has a chip missing from the centre of the front. With pendulum and a winder.

The clockmaker Claude Hémon was apprenticed in Paris in 1770 and was working at Rue St Martin between 1812 and 1820. Bronzier Pierre-Victor Ledure was born in 1783 and is recorded as working at Rue Neuve des Petits Champs in 1812.
