A hexagonal engraved gilt-brass table clock with later dial, German, late 16th Century

the moulded case engraved on each side with the story of Susannah and the Elders, the later 4¾-inch dial with iron hour hand, the movement with fusee and chain to the going train, verge and balance wheel escapement, standing barrel and outside count wheel bell striking, stamped on the backplate with a ram or goat and the initials I W C, hinged base with bun feet

From the collection of Percy Webster sold in these romms on 10th October 1954, Lot 184, the inside of the base with his punch mark. Sold again in these rooms on 22nd May 1967, Lot 114.

Case in generally good condition, some marking and rubbing to the gilding, bell replaced, base hinge detached from case. Dial replaced. Dial in good condition. Movement appears to be complete but much in need of a clean, gilding very worn to top plate, alterations to escapement and balance cock, later regulator. No winder.
