Description
- 88cm. high, 179cm. wide, 90.5cm. deep; 2ft. 10¾ in., 5ft. 10¾ in., 2ft. 11¾ in.
the rectangular marble top above an egg and dart moulding and a vitruvian scroll frieze, the front apron in the form of a Nemean lion pelt with central Herculean mask, the side aprons with shell carving, on scrolled corbel supports carved with bell-flowers, acanthus foliage and shells beneath applied paterae, on shaped plinths with ribbon and paterae mouldings
Condition
Discolourations to marble top which looks as if it may have been painted and stripped off. Extensive scratches to marble top and minor chips to edge. Some losses to paterae heading supports and egg and dart mouldings heading supports. Minor wear, marks and stains to timber.

Catalogue Note
The design of this table is based on a design for a side table by Matthias Lock in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. A painted and giltwood table to this design was formerly at Hamilton Palace, Lanarkshire and is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (see A. Coleridge, Chippendale Furniture, London 1968, figs. 95 and 96).
