Description
- 82cm. high, 199cm. wide, 124cm. deep; 2ft. 8¼in., 6ft. 6½in., 4ft. ¾in.
the claret tooled leather writing surface above a kneehole drawer between a cupboard with folio divisions and another with sliding trays, to each side, carved with fluting, rosettes, trailing festoons and garland decoration and the scrolled brackets with grotesques, on hairy paw and bracket feet
Condition
Very good restored condition. The claret coloured leather top has some bruising and marks - from use. Some old marks, chips and scratches to the mahogany - which on the whole is actually in very good order - the grotesque masks are rubbed in places. Of an impressive size. There is ample storage. Each door is released by a side catch. Each short frieze drawer is lacking a key but is unlocked.

Catalogue Note
This lot is a copy of one of Thomas Chippendale's greatest pieces. It follows the design of a library table for Nostell Priory which was a commission for Sir Rowland Winn in 1766. Christopher Gilbert, The Life & Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1972, p.169 writes 'The library table, completed in 1766, is generally regarded as the finest piece of mahogany furniture ever made (fig. 440).
