the upper section of demi-lune form with gilt-banded sides flanking a D-shaped fall front mounted with a figure of Helios on a blue glass background; opening to reveal a fitted interior with an inlaid triumphal arch flanked by six drawers with ivory handles; the whole raised on acanthus carved bun feet; the lower section with a gilt border above four long drawers flanked by gilt rounded corners on cylindrical feet.
Condition
Old marks, surface abrasions to the top of the upper section with horizontal age cracks to the sides, with minor marks in the corners, rubbing to the gilding. Minor chips and losses. Minor rubbing to the decorated surfaces of the fall front. The interior with losses of handles to some of the drawers and some handles replaced. Age cracks, traces of old worm, which has been restored. Further surface abrasions. The interior inlaid arch appears to be possibly a later replacement, probably formerly with shelves. One of the upper sections with two back feet, formerly detached and since been restored. The lower section with vertical age cracks, some lifting to the veneer and surface abrasions. Further rubbing along the sides and corners. Further age cracks and craquelure to the veneer along the drawers, with restorations and small veneer replacements to the drawers and further restorations to the cross bar between the drawers. Each of the ends of the drawers appear to have replaced veneers. Drawers slightly warped and do not open and close very easily. Some appear to have been adapted. Sides with old minor marks, in otherwise sound condition.
