Catalogue Note
The white lacquer and gilded original version in the Millwood Museum in Washington, D.C. perfectly illustrates the transition fro one period to the next: the sculpted wood drapery hanging from a scrolled border is still eighteenth century in feel, whereas the feet and upright in the form of eagles are nineteenth century.
