Description

  • 79cm. high, 92cm. wide, 50cm. deep; 2ft. 7in., 3ft. ¼in., 1ft. 7¾in.
with a moulded rouge griotte marble top, of inverted breakfront outline, with a moulded rouge griotte marble top resting on a carved parcel-gilt border above two drawers with finely cast and chased escutcheons in the form of grotesque masks between dog heads, the sides of conforming shape with applied pierced Rococo plaques, raised on a boldly carved and pierced parcel-gilt and painted apron between cabriole legs terminating in tightly scrolled feet, painted black on reverse

Condition

In a pure 'untouched' state and will require workshop attention. Marble top with old repairs. There is a missing section of walnut veneer to the centre of the frieze above the first drawer. The parcel-gilt decoration is tired and very dirty with old chips to the gesso. Traces of minor worm. An interesting piece in 'Country House' condition.The underside of the top drawer is inscribed in black ink 'No. 02882'
