  • 53.5cm. 21in. high
8-inch dial, finely cast rococo spandrels, matted centre with date aperture and signed on a plaque Robt: Higgs, London, strike/silent dial in the arch, the three train fusee movement with six knopped pillars, verge escapement, trip repeat chiming the quarters on a nest of six bells (one bell lacking) and striking the hours on a further bell, foliate engraved backplate signed as the dial, the case with inverted bell top, brass carrying handle and flambeau finials, moulded base the whole decorated in gilt with chinoiseries

Condition

Dial would benefit from cleaning and re-silvering, some surface rusting to strike/silent hand. Movement is much in need of a clean, crown wheel replaced but otherwise wheelwork appears to be original throughout, one chiming bell lacking, movement securing brackets and base screws lacking. Case is rather dirty but lacquer work is generally in good condition, seatboard has been cut to accomodate longer pendulum due to change of crown wheel, rear door lock changed, old scuffs, marks and minor losses throughout. No winder or case keys.
