1¾-inch silvered dial with foliate engraved centre and gilt mask, the fusee and chain 8-day movement with ratchet tooth lever escapement, the plain steel balance and regulator mounted on the back plate, signed Arnold, 84 Strand, London, No.4356, the rectangular case with foliate carrying handle, leaf-entwined rustic pilasters and profusely engraved with foliate scrolls, lacking finials

Dial rather tarnished. Movement is complete and looks as though it would run but may benefit from a clean. Case is lacking the four finials but otherwise in good original condition. With winder and hands adjustment key.

John Roger Arnold was born in 1769 the son of John Arnold the famous inventor and developer of the marine chronometer. He was apprenticed to his father in 1783 and joined him in business from 1790 until his death in 1799. John Roger continued the business at various address in London until 1830 when he joined Edward John Dent as Arnold and Dent at 84 Strand. The partnership continued until 1840 when Arnold traded alone again until his death in 1843. After his death the business was taken over by Charles Frodsham.
