An Important Meissen beaker, circa 1725,

painted by J.G. Horoldt with a half-length figure seated at a spinning wheel within a laub-und-bandelwerk border, the reverse with a vignette of a fabulous lizard in a landscape with a bird in flight above  (rim chip and two haircracks)

Two fine haircarcks to the rim, approx. ¼in. and ¾in., each with an adjacent shallow chip to the outside of rim. Some minor typical wear.

Other pieces from this celebrated 'half-figure' service were sold at Christie's 5th October 1981 and 5th December 1994.  Further examples were in the Wark collection and the Dresden State Collection.  It is generally thought that this service is one of the earliest of its type, painted by J.G. Horoldt himself.
