Various design elements of the present lot relate to designs for pier-glasses by John Linnell and can be seen in some of his work. The carved staligtite detail on the cresting is similar to that on a drawing for a pier-glass, dated 1776, illustrated in Helena Hayward and Pat Kirkham, William and John Linnell, London, 1980, pl. 200 and pl. 204 . Other further design details details can be seen again in a design for a pier-glass in Helena Hayward and Pat Kirkham op. cit. pl.190 and for an executed design op.cit. pl. 191.
