A rare Italian kingwood inlaid burr elm, burr maple and parquetry commode, Grand Ducal Workshops, Florence late 18th century

with the original marble top

Colour overall less orange, more natural and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. There is craquelure to the veneer commensurate with age and some minor patches and restorations. There are also some very minor chips to the veneer. The feet have had some largish areas reveneered as visible from the photograph. A rare piece from the Grand Ducal Workshop. In overall good conserved condition.

The convex front of this commode is more reminiscent of models from Southern Italy, however the method of construction is typical of Grand Ducal workshop in Florence in the second half of the 18th century.  This commode is especially beautiful due to the choice of veneers and is an impressive large size.
