in the manner of Thomas Hope, with scroll padded arms, the centre of each front rail decorated with reeding flanking a cental patera within painted Greek keys, on ring turned tapering legs.

Provenance
Burton Hall, Lincolnshire, probably commissioned for John Monson, 3rd Baron Monson of Burton, (1785-1809). His marriage to Lady Sarah Savile in 1807, eldest daughter of 2nd Earl of Mexborough could possibly have been the impetus for the commissioning of these stools.

Condition
Both of these stools are in `country house' condition. Both have extensive worm damage with many visible holes and they will need to be treated against further infestation. The upholstery on one is very worn and dirty, the other is covered merely with a calico type material. One stool has had the ringed section of its legs cut. These cut sections are present. Paint and gilding original but very worn in a rather attractive way.
