comprising four fauteuils and a canapé, each covered in Aubusson tapestry depicting pastoral and other scenes (5)
Condition
General overview; Attractive worn appearance. There is a lot of wear to fabric with some fragmenting. Some loose and bare threads. The frames with separations, chipping and some indents. A lot of wear to legs. Some tears to the backing fabric of this suite and some stains.
The canapé with some old repairs.
Tapestry is 19th century in 18th century style. They have also been repaired and are also distressed in areas, visible in the photograph, along the fronts of the seats. The splits should be repaired (consolidated). The backs have repairs but are stable. They would need to be re-upholstered as tapestry to seats has sunk and is not flat, and splits have opened up, particularly to one seat (illustrated far right foreground chair of catalogue photograph. The upholstery tapestry to arms has repairs, the light coloured ground has lost the weft threads, showing the warp threads alone, over which flowers have been repaired or reworked.
