Description
each intricately embellished with three tiers of 'precious objects' depicted in carved jade of various colors, ivory and hardstones all presented on carved wood 'stands', inlaid with carved jade inscriptions, all reserved on a deep blue ground, the reverse with scenes of blooming trees, one of a magnolia tree inlaid with jade, tourmaline and wood, the other of a prunus tree with jade, glass and wood, both on orange lacquered grounds, elaborately carved wood stands (4)
Condition
Panel on the left hand side of the catalogue illustration – The left hand window/door is missing in the illustration but detached (in pieces). Parts of two inlaid jade characters are missing. Part of the small spinach and white jade parts of the massage roller are missing. Some of the carved wooded frame borders have broken off, some are possibly missing.
The blue background is dirty and dark and stained in places.
Panel on the right hand side of the catalogue illustration – some of the jade stems in the bowl on the left hand side are detatched but present. A jade leaf is detached from the bowl on the left hand side. Some parts of inlaid jade characters are missing. There is an element missing from the central bowl and scrolls. An agate bat is detached from the upper right and there are several other small elements missing or detached. The blue background has darkened and may have been overpainted.
Both stands are in generally good condition.
