Description

the figure wearing loose-fitting robes, open at the front, holding the tie ends of his sack, with a joyful facial expression, 7cm., 2 3/4 in; together with a smaller ivory figure of Budai, 17th/18th century and a small ivory figure of seated Guanyin

Provenance

The larger Budai figure, John Sparks Ltd., 1980; the smaller Budai figure Spink & Son Ltd.

Condition

The three figures are in good condition with the exception of overall hairline age cracks; very light overall scratches; loss of painted decoration to the robes and shoes of the large Budai; and a 1.1cm diameter replacement to the crown of the smaller Budai and a 0.5cm diameter hole drilled to the underside of the base.
