Description

the rounded rectangular body rising from a high spreading foot to an everted rim, finely cast in deep and high relief around the exterior with a broad band enclosing two pairs of writhing scaly dragons in pursuit of a flaming pearl, all amidst mythical creatures and tumultuous foaming waves, set to either end with a gilt lion mask handle, the domed cover similarly cast and pierced with dragons and phoenix amidst cloud scrolls and surmounted by a pierced coiled dragon finial

Condition

With the exception of six pinhead-size casting holes to the sides of the censer; evidence of gilding to the handles; possible repair to the attachment of the finial to the cover; a small chip to base of the finial and to the inner rim of the cover (approx. 5mm and 2mm); minute nibbles to the rims; and minor overall scratches and rubbing to the surface, this censer is in very good condition.
