the rounded sides of each rising to a flared rim, painted to the centre with blue foliate scrolls, below a wide band of ruyi-shaped panels on a diaper ground in iron-red, gilt, turquoise and green enamel, Japanese wood box

The plates are in overall good condition with the exception of minor rubbing to the gilt and iron-red decoration, some overall firing and glazing imperfections, small areas of flaked glaze to the feet, light glaze scratches and rubbing, and minor nibbles to the rims and footrings. In addition, one dish has a 2cm firing crack to the side of the exterior.
