Description
the body of waisted form, above a spreading foot and everted rim, painted with cranes amongst peony, with a central rectangular panel to each side inscribed 'V.PLVMBI', Japanese wood box
Condition
There is one large Japanese gilt-lacquer repair to the rim; a long hairline crack extending down from the repair across three-quarters of the vase and which meets the end of a three-point hairline crack; a restoration (approx. 4cm) to a broken section of the rim, which appears to have been a clean break; a hairline crack extending approx. 7.5cm across the rim from the gilt-lacquer restoration; a four-point hairline crack above the foot; minor nibbling to the rim and foot; overall firing and glazing imperfections; and light scratching and rubbing to the glaze.
Two large Japanese gilt-lacquer repairs to the rim finely embellished with a lotus scroll ground. The body with scattered burst air bubbles mainly concentrated to the lower half of the body, ranging from pin- prick to 3mm. Pulling to the glaze on the base. The glaze with a dry matte appearance. Otherwise generally in good condition.
