comprising a figure of Guanyin, wearing flowing robes profusely decorated with jewellery, holding a lotus bud and standing on a lotus and dragon, impressed mark, a figure of a scholar official wearing loose-fitting robes and hat and holding a scroll in his right hand, standing on a rockwork base, a figure of a scholar, two figures of seated Guanyin, one on rockwork with an acolyte, and a small group of two scholars
Provenance
The figure of a scholar, Phillip's, London, 19th November 1999, lot 69.
Condition
These figures are in fair condition with the exception of minor glazing imperfections, light overall scratches, and:
Seated Guanyin: three firing cracks to the base that extend up the interior, two of which are visible from the exterior; restoration to the robes to her left, and associated hairline cracks; and hairline firing lines to the robes between the knees
Guanyin with child: restorations to her neck, right wrist and acolyte, which appear to have been clean breaks; repainting to the back of the head, to the shoulders diagonally through to her right hand, and to the area surrounding her left knee and the acolyte; short hairline firing cracks to her left shoulder, back and rockwork base; and a loss to the tip of her crown
Guanyin with dragon: two tiny losses to the tip of the lotus; a C-shape hairline firing crack to the base, half of which is visible from the exterior; a 4mm piece of kiln grit adhered to the top of the dragon's head; and minute nibbles to the edges of her robes
Figure of a scholar: restoration to his right hand, which appears to have been a clean break; restoration to the outer edge of his right sleeve; repainting to his left shoulder and the length of the front and back of his left sleeve, to the back of the lower half of his body, and to the left side of his face; rubbing to his waist area; and three main hairline firing cracks to the interior of the figure, one of which is visible on the exterior to the rockwork base
Group of two figures: repainting to the entire right section of rocks, from the back of the figure on the right through to the reverse and including the plant; and short hairline firing lines to the front and reverse of the rocks and wrists of the figure on the right
Figure of a scholar: firing cracks to the lower half of the body, one of which is visible running vertically through the chest and arms from the exterior; restoration to the lower half of the body as a result of the firing cracks, which appears to have been four clean breaks, and associated chips; and restoration to both sides of the long hair ribbon.
