Description

comprising a figure with elaborate head-dress and loose-fitting robes, holding a ruyi sceptre seated on rockwork, a standing figure holding a scroll, and two further seated figures

Provenance

The figure with ruyi sceptre, Bonham's London, 18th March 2003, lot 168.

Condition

The four figures are in fair overall condition with the exception of minor firing imprefections and: (first holding ruyi) loss to both ends of the sceptre and left hand, tips of toes and tips of right and left front of robe hanging over base, 5mm., chip to middle front of hooded cowl, 2.5 x 1.5cm., triangular flake to bottom rear edge of rockwork, and a firing crack and line across back of head; (second standing) restoration to the U-shaped fold in the right sleeve and continuing around the wrist of the right hand, and loss and polishing to the tops of the waves at the front and right side; (third seated holding scroll) restoration to tip of one finger; (fourth seated on rockwork) loss to half of the ruyi head on the sceptre, loss to one handle of the tripod censer at her feet, and nibbles to both ends of the hairpin.
