Description
comprising a figure of Wen Chang, wearing loose-fitting robes with rank badge and high hat, seated on a horseshoe-shaped chair, a figure of Guandi, seated on a low chair with stern expression, another figure of Guandi, standing holding his belt, and a figure of Guanyin, seated and holding a ruyi sceptre
Provenance
The figure of Wen Chang, Roger Keverne, Summer Exhibition, 2004 no 44; the seated figure of Guandi, Solveig and Anita Gray, November 1999; the standing figure of Guandi, Phillip's London, 13th November 2000, lot 132.
Condition
The figures are in fair overall condition with the exception of minor firing imprefections and: (Wen Chang) restoration the back rail and sides of the chair, and to his right hand, and firing cracks to the base and back of the chair; (seated Guandi) a 5.5cm. long firing crack to the lower front of the figure extending into a 3.5cm., long hairline glaze crack, and loss to the tips of his tunic at the bottom left edge; (standing Guandi) restoration to the tip of the left strand of his beard, to one of the tied knots on his head, and to the end of his cap hanging over his left shoulder, and a 1cm., long hairline firing crack to the left shoulder; (Guanyin) restoration to both hands and the ruyi sceptre and left arm.
