Description

of rectangular form, carved in shallow relief on one side with a lady standing in a gardens beside a crooked prunus tree, the reverse with an inscription written in lishu clerical script signed 'Xi Hu', all below a pair of confronting dragons on the top, the stone of even white tone

Condition

The overall condition is very good with no chips or nicks. The stone is of very even white tone.

Catalogue Note

Feng Yung, whose hao was Xi Hu, was considered to be one of the best jade carvers in the Suzhou area during the Qianlong period.  Compare a jade plaque signed Xi Hu, illustrated in Exquisite Jade Carving, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1996, cat. no. 203A.
